ELDON, IA (August 2) - Racing action at the Eldon Raceway came to a close with the season championship night of action. The first feature of the night was the mini-stock division with the feature being filled full of excitement with two red flags on the first two starts of the eight lap event with Mike Fisher of Blakesburg and Ethan Hustead of Colony, Mo. Got together with Fishers car rolling on top of Husteads both drivers walked away.
The next red flag would come with Donnie Teninty of Oshkosh, WI. And Ryan Moore of Centerville making contact with Moore’s machine rolling brining out the second red. Both drivers were okay with Moore driving his rolled machine to the pit area. Once the feature got going the 07 of Tyler Whalen taking the checkers with Jim Garrett in second with last weeks winner Andrew Hustead in third.
The USRA hobby stock feature started with another red flag flying for Don Nunnikhoven taking a nasty flip down the backstretch and coming to rest in turn three with Nunnikhoven walking away but his car was destroyed. After the green flag flew Danny Thrasher of Agency paced the field for the first five laps before last weeks winner Jason McDaniel of Eldon taking the lead and the checkers for the fourteenth time in 2008. Thrasher took second with Louis Lynch of Glenwood, MO. Taking third and Bob Lynch of Ottumwa in fourth.
The USRA b-modified feature with Mike Shelton taking the early lead with Andrew Schroeder of Keswick in second with Schroeder taking the lead with six laps remaining to take the win. Todd Holman of Ottumwa took the second spot with Shelton in third and Jayme Duinink of Pella in fourth.
The stock car feature was a thriller with Pat Rachels making the trip back from North Carolina where he’s doing his internship with Chip Ganassi Racing and made it payoff taking the feature checkers but had to fight off Shane Weller of Agency who would swap the lead seven different time before the checkers flew. Howard Gordon Jr. of Oskaloosa took the runner-up spot with Weller in third and Mike Harward of Floris in fourth.
The final feature of the night saw Scott Dickey of Packwood take the checkers making it look easy with a half-straight away lead over Greg Cox of Altoona who took second. The battled for third went to Jon Orwing of Ottumwa who passed Jeremy Townsend of Bloomfield with three laps remaining with Townsend taking fourth.
